High groundwater levels are expected to cause flooding. Groundwater levels in West Dorset remain high. Areas that could be affected include: Winterbourne Abbas, Winterbourne Steepleton, Martinstown, Winterbourne Monkton, Winterbourne Herringston and Winterbourne Came. The groundwater level at the Kingston Russell borehole is at 118.18m. Levels are falling slowly but still remain high. The weather is forecast to be dry this week with no further rainfall expected. Residents may experience inundation of septic tanks and sewer systems. Properties may experience flooding in cellars in affected areas. Flooding of roads is expected. Roads may be damaged by floodwater. We are closely monitoring the situation . If you have a pump, make sure it is working and switched on. Think about alternative power sources in case of power cuts. This is a flood alert update. River levels remain steady but still higher than normal in the Lower Avon and responsive to further rainfall. Flooding is still possible. Areas most at risk include the tributaries between Ringwood and Christchurch. Flooding is possible with low lying land and roads near rivers particularly around Ringwood Old Cottage most affected. No rain is forecast in the next few days. We will continue to monitor the situation. Please avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses, and do not attempt to walk, cycle or drive through flood water.
